Multi-level

IELTS is a multi-level test. You get a score between 1 and 9 for each segment. Half scores like 6.5 are possible. Academies often require an IELTS score of 6 or 7. They can also ask for a minimum score in each of the 4 sections.

The academic and general training reading examinations are graded on the same scale. The difference between the two tests is the style or text type. However, academic reading tests may include text that has more complex vocabulary or more complex style. It is common for a large number of questions to be answered correctly in a general training reading test to secure a given band score.
